Hoarding Dragon was originally printed in Magic 2011. It’s making a comeback in Magic 2015, reportedly being included in one of the Magic 2015 Core Set Intro Packs. It’s a 4/4 Flyer for 3RR. Whenever the Hoarding Dragon enters the battlefield, you may search your library for an artifact card, exile it, then shuffle your library. Then, when he is put into a graveyard from the battlefield, you may put the exiled card into its owner’s hand.
Overall, this is a pretty interesting effect. Of course, there is a downside to this ability. If the Hoarding Dragon isn’t sent to the graveyard, and instead exiled, or returned to its owners hand, or otherwise removed from the field for whatever reason, that artifact card is lost for good.
It’s not a bad card in Commander for Red artifact-based decks (Slobad, Goblin Tinkerer decks, for example), especially if you know you have a way to sacrifice the dragon at a moment’s notice if someone tries to deprive that artifact you tutored up from you permanently. I don’t see this seeing much Constructed play, however.
How would you use Hoarding Dragon?
